Jill Ouellette Says Farewell to Adrian College

Many hearts were saddened on Mar. 16, 2022 when Professor Jill Ouellette announced that her time at Adrian College has come to an end. Meika Hinkle-Degroot, a sophomore fashion student said it best herself. “Professor Ouellette is one of the most passionate professors I’ve ever had. Her enthusiasm for developments in the fashion industry and concern for the environmental and humanitarian impact is clear in every class she teaches, and she works hard to instill that same passion and responsible concern in her students.”

Ouellette was known around Adrian College’s campus as one of the most down to Earth individuals, and any one would admit that they knew she cared about each and every one of her students. Ouellette graduated from Adrian with a BA in fashion merchandising, and continued to share her experiences with her students. From working as a Visual Merchandising Specialist at JCPenny, to being named a Department Manager at Gander Mountain, she eventually moved forward into her career with teaching. Starting as an adjunct professor at Davenport University and Central Michigan University, she became a full time professor at Northwood University, eventually leading to her time at Adrian.

Ouellette left a huge impact on Adrian College, but she states that Adrian helped her grow when she said, “The liberal arts education opened my heart and mind and I believe it is one quality that has stayed with me my entire life. It also instilled a love of learning and intellectual inquiry. As an employee, AC has been the place I could continue to engage in my joys of teaching, the fashion industry, and corporate social responsibility.”

Ouellette’s favorite part of teaching at Adrian was seeing the world through the eyes of her students. She has hopes that the fashion program will continue to grow and strengthen, with the new professor bringing different perspectives to the program.

After her time at Adrian College, Ouellete says, “my plans are to change my career to some aspect of Corporate Social Responsibility, get married to my wonderful fiance Jeff, and move to Chicago. I will also be developing a side gig in Life Coaching.” As Professor Ouellette parts, she advises the students of Adrian College, “Sometimes when you are overwhelmed and can’t make a decision, quiet yourself and listen to what your gut feeling is telling you. Show gratitude in all situations, good and difficult. Enjoy this time in your lives because you will never have this time again.”

Jill Ouellette will be greatly missed and has left a large footprint on the hearts of students of Adrian College, however, our community wishes her the best in all of her future endeavors.

“One last note. I want to thank my fashion students who are simply the BEST and for making this program so strong. Thanks to all my other students who bring such amazing energy to my classroom and express so much support for me and my profession. Thanks to my colleagues, the Adrian College community, and all others who have so tirelessly supported me over so many years. I am blessed. Connect with me on Linkedin.” – Professor Jill Ouellette
