The Bachelorette or Bust

Written by: Kylee Doty

Before you start hating this article before you even start reading it, let me start by saying I don’t really like The Bachelorette either. I am, on the other hand, a huge fan of The Bachelor and I’ve seen almost every single season in its entirety for the past few years. I tend to like The Bachelor more because being a woman, I can appreciate the drama created by the ladies more than I can relate to the drama created by the men. In case you’re not familiar, the Bachelorette for Season 16 is Clare Crawley, who had previously earned herself a place in Bachelor Nation when she appeared on a previous season of The Bachelor as a contestant. She also happens to be the oldest bachelorette to date at 39 years old, and I’m looking forward to seeing how her knowledge of dating and love plays into her conduction of her newfound role.

Right off the cuff, there are a few things I like about Clare, and a few things I’m not entirely sure about. Immediately, I have to admire a woman who willingly volunteers to live in a house with 31 men. I cannot physically imagine a process more exhausting than this, but to each their own. Additionally, I admire that Clare seems to know what she wants and she’s not into entertaining games or men who don’t show her they want something serious. She realizes she’s not 22 anymore and her actions demonstrate that at this stage in her life, she is only interested in a life partner who’s in it for the long haul.

On the other hand, Clare appears to get overwhelmed easily, and even though it’s early in the season, I’m hoping that this doesn’t hinder her in her husband search. It’s also important to note that the producers behind The Bachelorette and The Bachelor are notorious for editing their shows to induce the most drama possible, so it’s likely Clare is actually much more relaxed, but as viewers, we don’t really see that. Another red flag I noticed is that the second she met a contestant named Dale right out of the limo, she’s drawn to him to the point that she says “I feel like I just met my husband.” On one hand, she makes it clear that she wants a husband, but the way she liked Dale so intensely right away leads me to believe she needs to slow down a little and spend more time with the men before she jumps to her decision. *Insert me realizing I should take my advice more since I’m so wise on paper*

All in all, although I’m not typically the biggest Bachelorette fan, I think I might just make an exception for Clare and try to tolerate the unbearable amount of testosterone and punching-holes-in-drywall energy.

Be sure to tune in Tuesdays at 8pm EST and join me in this first-time experience!
